Complete specialist care for washing, refreshing and blocking wool and other animal fibres.

The Yarn Food Wool Care Kit brings together our 300 ml Wool Wash, Wool Blocking & Refresher Spray and drainable, fold-flat hand wash basin — giving you everything you need to care for wool, cashmere, merino and other animal fibres from first wash to everyday maintenance.

Use Wool Wash when your garment needs a full clean or first wet block. The drainable basin lets you release the wash water while the garment remains supported, helping reduce unnecessary lifting, stretching and strain on wet fibres.

Between washes, reach for the Wool Blocking & Refresher Spray to freshen woollens or help handmade garments return to shape without repeating a full wet block.

Both formulas contain lanolin to help condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel, with a soft lavender fragrance.

Ideal for handmade pieces, treasured cashmere, everyday woollens and anyone who wants a complete fibre-specific wool-care routine.

1. WHY YARN FOOD?

COMPLETE WOOL CARE IN ONE KIT
Full washing, wet blocking, refreshing and between-wash reshaping — with specialist products designed for wool and other animal fibres.

A GENTLER WAY TO HAND WASH
The drainable basin lets you release the wash water while your garment remains supported inside, helping reduce unnecessary lifting, pulling and stretching of wet fibres.

WITH LANOLIN FOR SOFTNESS
Both Wool Wash and Wool Blocking & Refresher Spray contain lanolin to help condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel.

NO REPEATED RINSING REQUIRED
Wool Wash uses surfactants that loosen dirt from the fibres and suspend it in the wash water. When you drain the basin, the loosened dirt leaves with the water rather than settling back into the fibres. Because the formula is low-foaming, repeated rinsing isn’t needed.

This means less handling and agitation of delicate fibres during washing, while allowing the conditioning ingredients to remain in the garment.

REFRESH BETWEEN WASHES
Not every woollen needs a full wash after every wear. The spray provides a lighter-care option for freshening and reviving wool, cashmere and other animal fibres between washes.

FROM FIRST WET BLOCK TO LATER RESHAPING
Our roots are in knitting. Use Wool Wash and the basin for a handmade garment’s first full wash and wet block, then use the spray later to help restore shape between washes without repeating the full wet-blocking process.

FOLDS FLAT FOR STORAGE
The lightweight basin collapses neatly when not in use.

2. FRAGRANCE

A soft lavender fragrance across both Wool Wash and Wool Blocking & Refresher Spray, designed to leave wool and other animal fibres smelling clean and fresh without being overpowering.

3. HOW TO USE

WOOL WASH — HAND WASHING

  • Open the basin and fill with 5 litres of cold to tepid water.
  • Add 3–6 pumps (5–10 ml) of Wool Wash.
  • Use 3 pumps / 5 ml for soft water.
  • Use 6 pumps / 10 ml for hard water.
  • Submerge the garment and leave to soak for 20 minutes.
  • Open the drain in the base of the basin and allow the wash water to run away while the garment remains supported inside.
  • Gently press the garment to remove excess water. Avoid rubbing, wringing or excessive agitation.
  • Transfer the garment to a clean towel, roll it up and press out further moisture.
  • Lay flat or block to dry.
  • There is no need for repeated rinsing.
  • Always follow the yarn ball’s or garment manufacturer’s washing and temperature instructions.

WOOL SPRAY — TO REFRESH BETWEEN WASHES

  • Lay the garment flat, or hang it where appropriate.
  • Hold the bottle around 20 cm from the fabric and mist lightly and evenly.
  • Gently reshape the garment with your hands if needed.
  • Allow to air dry completely before wearing or storing.
  • For delicate fibres, test first on an inconspicuous area.

WOOL SPRAY — FOR BLOCKING

  • Pin the finished piece to the desired measurements and shape.
  • Mist generously and evenly from approximately 20 cm away.
  • Gently shape the fabric, paying particular attention to edges, stitch definition and areas that need adjustment.

FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
