The Yarn Food Wool Wash & Refresher Set pairs our 300 ml Wool Wash with our Wool Blocking & Refresher Spray, giving you a complete care routine for wool, merino, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, angora and other animal fibres.

Use Wool Wash when your garment needs a full clean, and reach for the Wool Refresher Spray between washes to freshen and reshape fibres without putting the garment through another full wash.

Both formulas are designed specifically for animal fibres and contain lanolin to help maintain their naturally soft, supple feel.

Ideal for everyday woollens, treasured cashmere pieces and handmade garments alike.

1. WHY YARN FOOD?

ONE SET, TWO LEVELS OF CARE
Wash when your garment needs a full clean; refresh between washes when it simply needs freshening or reshaping.

REDUCE UNNECESSARY WASHING
Not every woollen needs a full wash after every wear. The refresher spray helps freshen and revive fibres between washes, reducing unnecessary washing and handling.

IDEAL FOR HANDMADE PIECES TOO
Our roots are in knitting. Use Wool Wash for the first wash and full wet block, then use the spray later to reshape handmade garments between washes without repeating a full wet block.

SOFT LAVENDER CARE
Both products have a soft lavender fragrance designed to leave woollens smelling fresh without being overpowering.

A soft lavender fragrance designed to freshen wool and other animal fibres between washes.

3. HOW TO USE

WOOL WASH — HAND WASHING

Fill a basin with 5 litres of cold to tepid water.
Add 3–6 pumps (5–10 ml) of Wool Wash.
Use 3 pumps / 5 ml for soft water.
Use 6 pumps / 10 ml for hard water.
Submerge the garment and leave to soak for 20 minutes.
Gently squeeze out excess water. Avoid rubbing, wringing or excessive agitation.
Roll the garment in a clean towel and press out further moisture.
Lay flat or block to dry.
There is no need for repeated rinsing.
Always follow the yarn ball’s or garment manufacturer’s washing and temperature instructions.

WOOL SPRAY — TO REFRESH BETWEEN WASHES

Lay the garment flat, or hang it where appropriate.
Hold the bottle around 20 cm from the fabric and mist lightly and evenly.
Gently reshape the garment with your hands if needed.
Allow to air dry completely before wearing or storing.
For delicate fibres, test first on an inconspicuous area.

WOOL SPRAY — FOR BLOCKING

Pin the finished piece to the desired measurements and shape.
Mist generously and evenly from approximately 20 cm away.
Gently shape the fabric, paying particular attention to edges, stitch definition and areas that need adjustment.
Leave until completely dry.

I’ve just used the wash for my hand spun yarn

I’ve just used the wash for my hand spun yarn. I’m very pleased with the results. My skeins of yarn are now drying on the line.
The wash liquid mixes so easily in water.
I love that it is made in the UK. And I’m happy to say that I shall purchase again.
I’ve not used the blocking spray yet as I haven’t completed my knitting or weaving yet. But I’m sure it will be an equal success .

Excellent blocking spray

I used the blocking spray on a jumper I'd knitted in 4ply alpaca and s cotton wool mix hand knitted jumper. The spray wet the jumpers nicely to flatten out creases and refresh

Excellent product

FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
