Our Blocking Spray for Wool & Animal Fibre Yarns is expertly designed for yarn crafters to nourish and preserve wool- and animal fibre yarns such as merino, cashmere, mohair, alpaca, angora, camel and their blends during the spray blocking process.

Washing your woollen handmades too often can damage the protective coating of the yarn fibres that hold in moisture and reduce the lifespan of your garment as a result. Extend the time between washes by giving your lovingly crafted woollies a refresh, a reshape and some nurturing nourishment by blocking your knits.

YarnFood’s specially formulated blocking spray will revive the texture of your carefully knitted or crocheted projects by giving them that nourishing touch for a renewed professional look.

1. MORE BENEFITS

PREPARES FOR WINTER STORAGE The lavender essential oil will add an extra layer of protection against fibre-hungry moths. We recommend storing your winter woollies in breathable cotton storage bags and add moth repellents.

PERFECT FOR TRAVEL Woollies can smell stuffy and look tired when carried around in a suitcase and exposed to varying climates and levels of humidity. Giving them a feed to freshen up will be much appreciated by their fibres.

EASY TO USE WITH SIMPLE SPRAY ACTION The bottle has a simple spray action with a very fine spray that evenly distributes YarnFood Blocking Spray across the garment - no dribbling or leaking which means you waste less liquid and the bottle will last you for longer.

MADE WITH NATURAL INGREDIENTS & LOCALLY SOURCED The ingredients for our plant-derived, biodegradable formula with added lanolin are sourced locally from small businesses, because we believe in a world where people still matter and businesses care.

2. FRAGRANCE

The subtle, essential-oil based lavender fragrance makes your knit or crocheted items smell clean and fresh without overpowering the senses.

3. HOW TO USE

Pin your garment to dimension and lightly spray from a distance of about 20cm. Avoid soaking the fabric. A fine coat of mist will suffice to feed animal fibres with nourishing lanolin and freshen it up with a subtle lavender fragrance. Gently pad the garment into shape while the formula is sinking in. Leave to dry.

The specifically developed formula for nourishing plant fibre yarns works with and harmonises your handcrafted fabric to revive its texture and feel refreshed, like a spa for your knits.

    CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Whilst blocking, the knitted fabric seemed to retain its integrity instead of stretching out of shape so this process was easier than with just water or with other wool detergents.

    FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.

    Testimonials

Just removed my shawl from blocking boards. It feels lovely and softer than before soaking. I love that a small amount can be enough and that it does not create too much foam.
