Our Wool Wash detergent is expertly designed for yarn crafters to clean, nourish and preserve wool- and animal fibre yarns and their blends naturally.

Lock in the love that you put into your handmades by giving them the care and nourishment they crave.

We’ve added lanolin to our natural no-rinse formula to feed moisture back into your woollies and animal fibre yarnments made from merino, cashmere, mohair, alpaca, angora, camel or other animal-based yarn fibres.

Make your precious pieces stay soft, in shape and last longer.

1. MORE BENEFITS

IDEAL FOR WET BLOCKING Its yarn-specific formula helps animal fibre stitches relax and open up toblossom. Watch your patterns pop and achieve a finished and professional look every time.

EFFICIENT NATURAL FORMULA WITH UP TO 100 WASHES This plant-derived, dye-, phosphate-, and sulphate free, biodegradable and non bio
detergent with added natural lanolin only needs 5ml - or 3 pumps - per wash which makes 500 ml go a long way.

PUMP BOTTLE FOR EASY MEASURE AND NO WASTE The pump lid makes dispensing small amounts of wool detergent clean and easy. No more gloopy caps or fingers, just 3 pumps give you a clean and accurate measure every time. Say no to waste and yes to the planet.

PREPARES FOR WINTER STORAGE The lavender essential oil will add an extra layer of protection against fibre-hungry moths. We recommend storing your winter woollies in breathable cotton storage bags and add moth repellents.

PERFECT TRAVEL DETERGENT Just add 3 pumps of Yarn Food Wool Wash to a water-filled sink, leave 20 minutes to soak, squeeze out water, lay out flat or hang to dry. No machine or effort needed. You’re on holidays after all.

WE SOURCE LOCALLY As a family business based in the British countryside we know what community means and care greatly to preserve it. This is why we source all our ingredients locally from small businesses like ourselves, because we believe in a world where people still matter and businesses care.

2. FRAGRANCE

The subtle, essential-oil based lavender fragrance makes your knit or crocheted items smell clean and fresh without overpowering the senses.

No smell very weak

I brought this for a change from my usual brand , and I am sorry to say I was dreadfully disappointed with it. The product was like water very thin , and no smell at all , it didn’t seem to benefit my work ( crochet ) not has soft has my other brand. When press the pump it came out like water.

Thank you so much for sharing your honest feedback — we’re genuinely sorry to hear that the product didn’t meet your expectations. Our formulas are intentionally made lighter than many traditional washes, with a more subtle fragrance, owing to the no-rinse formulation. That said, we completely understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to texture and scent, and it sounds like our product wasn’t the right fit for you.

If you’d be willing, we’d love to learn more about how you use your yarn wash so we can better support you and continue improving. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at hello@yarnfood.com — we’d be happy to help, and can also suggest alternative products from our range that may suit your needs better.

Thanks again for taking the time to review — it really helps us do better.

Warm wishes,
Oliver & Helene, Yarn Food

FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
