Specialist care for wool, merino and other natural-fibre socks — at home and on the go.

The Yarn Food Sock Wash Bundle pairs our 300 ml Sock Wash with a 100 ml Sock Wash Mini, giving you the same fibre-specific care in two practical sizes.

Keep the 300 ml bottle at home for regular hand washing and use the 100 ml Mini for travel, weekends away, gifting, or simply keeping a second bottle somewhere convenient.

Our low-foam, no-rinse Sock Wash is designed for wool, merino and other natural-fibre socks. Added lanolin helps condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel, while tea tree oil gives the formula its crisp, clean fragrance.

Together, the bundle provides up to 80 hand washes, based on 5 ml per 5 litres of soft water.

1. WHY YARN FOOD?

ONE FORMULA, TWO USEFUL SIZES
The same specialist Sock Wash in a 300 ml bottle for regular use and a 100 ml Mini for travel, gifting or keeping as a spare.

MADE FOR HARDWORKING NATURAL FIBRES
Sock Wash is designed for wool, merino and other natural-fibre socks that experience repeated wear, friction and washing.

WITH ADDED LANOLIN
Lanolin helps condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel.

TEA TREE FRESHNESS
Tea tree oil gives Sock Wash its distinctive crisp, clean fragrance, making it particularly suited to frequently worn socks.

NO REPEATED RINSING REQUIRED
Sock Wash uses surfactants that loosen dirt from the fibres and suspend it in the wash water. When you lift the socks out, the loosened dirt stays in the water rather than settling back into the fibres. Because the formula is low-foaming, repeated rinsing isn’t needed.

This keeps the hand-washing process simple while allowing the conditioning ingredients to remain in the garment.

HOME & AWAY
Keep the full-size bottle by the sink and take the Mini with you when travelling, so your sock-care routine is easy to keep up wherever you are.

2. FRAGRANCE

A crisp, clean tea tree fragrance designed to leave frequently worn socks smelling fresh without being overpowering.

3. HOW TO USE

HAND WASHING

  • Fill a basin with 5 litres of cold to tepid water.
  • Add 3–6 pumps (5–10 ml) of Sock Wash:
  • 3 pumps / 5 ml for soft water
  • 6 pumps / 10 ml for hard water
  • Submerge the socks and leave to soak for 20 minutes.
  • Gently squeeze out excess water. Avoid rubbing, wringing or excessive agitation.
  • Roll in a clean towel and press out further moisture.
  • Lay flat or block to dry.
  • There is no need for repeated rinsing.
  • Always follow the yarn ball’s or garment manufacturer’s care instructions, particularly for washing temperature.

MACHINE WASHING

Our No-Rinse Washes are designed to nourish your garments as a hand-wash treatment. We therefore strongly recommend using the hand-wash method above, as the long-term conditioning effect of the added lanolin cannot be guaranteed when machine washing; repeated machine rinsing may progressively remove lanolin from the fibres.

If you still choose to use Sock Wash in the washing machine:

  • Use Sock Wash on a wool or delicate cycle, following the yarn ball’s or garment manufacturer’s washing and temperature instructions.
  • For particularly delicate, handmade or treasured socks, we recommend hand washing.

    FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
