Yarn Food Wool Wash 4L is designed primarily for indie dyers, yarn businesses and professional fibre users who need a reliable, fibre-specific wash in a larger format.

Its low-foam, no-rinse formula is ideal for post-dye washing and finishing of wool, merino, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, angora and other animal fibres, while added lanolin helps condition fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel.

The 4-litre size is also a practical choice for studios, workshops, costume and wardrobe departments, textile businesses, knitting retreats or anyone regularly caring for larger quantities of wool and natural-fibre garments.

With a soft lavender fragrance and the same specialist formula as our smaller Wool Wash bottles — simply in a more economical, lower-waste format for frequent use.

Lanolin helps condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel — particularly valuable after repeated wet processing.

NO REPEATED RINSING REQUIRED
Wool Wash uses surfactants that loosen dirt and residues from the fibres and suspend them in the wash water. When the fibres are removed, the loosened material stays in the water rather than settling back into them. Because the formula is low-foaming, repeated rinsing isn’t needed.

This can help simplify the finishing process while reducing unnecessary handling of wet fibres.

2. FRAGRANCE

A soft lavender fragrance designed to leave wool and other animal fibres smelling clean and fresh without being overpowering.
3. HOW TO USE
  • For hand washing or finishing, use 5–10 ml per 5 litres of cold to tepid water.
  • Use 5 ml for soft water.
  • Use 10 ml for hard water.
  • Submerge the fibres or garment and leave to soak for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Gently remove from the wash water and press out excess moisture without wringing or excessive agitation.
  • There is no need for repeated rinsing.
  • Always follow the yarn, fibre or garment manufacturer’s care instructions and your own dyeing/finishing process where applicable.

2–10% anionic surfactants; <5% non-ionic surfactants; <5% amphoteric surfactants; Lavandula Hybrida Grosso Oil; Linalool; parfum; phenoxyethanol; potassium sorbate.
5. SAFETY INFORMATION

Warning: Causes serious eye irritation.

Contains Linalyl Acetate, Linalool and Lavandula Hybrida Grosso. May produce an allergic reaction. Keep out of reach of children. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Avoid contact with eyes.

IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice or attention.

    FAQs

    Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

    Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

    CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

    In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

    Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

    Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
    the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
