Specialist care for wool, cashmere and other delicate animal fibres — at home and on the go.

The Yarn Food Wool Wash Bundle pairs our 300 ml Wool Wash with a 100 ml Wool Wash Mini, giving you the same fibre-specific care in two practical sizes.

Keep the 300 ml bottle at home for regular hand washing and use the 100 ml Mini for travel, weekends away, gifting, or simply keeping a second bottle somewhere convenient.

Our low-foam, no-rinse formula is designed specifically for wool, merino, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, angora and other animal fibres. Added lanolin helps condition fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel, while the soft lavender fragrance leaves woollens feeling fresh.

Together, the bundle provides up to 80 hand washes, based on 5 ml per 5 litres of soft water.

1. WHY YARN FOOD?

ONE FORMULA, TWO USEFUL SIZES
The same specialist Wool Wash in a 300 ml bottle for regular use and a 100 ml Mini for travel, gifting or keeping as a spare.

MADE FOR WOOL & ANIMAL FIBRES
Designed specifically for wool, merino, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, angora and other animal fibres.

WITH ADDED LANOLIN
Lanolin helps condition animal fibres and maintain their naturally soft, supple feel.

NO REPEATED RINSING REQUIRED
Wool Wash uses surfactants that loosen dirt from the fibres and suspend it in the wash water. When you lift the garment out, the loosened dirt stays in the water rather than settling back into the fibres. Because the formula is low-foaming, repeated rinsing isn’t needed.

This means less handling and agitation of delicate fibres during washing, while allowing the conditioning ingredients to remain in the garment.

IDEAL FOR HANDMADE PIECES TOO
Our roots are in knitting. Wool Wash is ideal for the first wash and full wet block of handmade wool and animal-fibre pieces.

HOME & AWAY
Keep the full-size bottle by the sink and take the Mini with you when travelling, so your natural-fibre care routine doesn’t have to change when you’re away.

2. FRAGRANCE

A soft lavender fragrance designed to leave wool and other animal fibres smelling clean and fresh without being overpowering.

3. HOW TO USE

Hand washing

  • Fill a basin with 5 litres of cold to tepid water.
  • Add 3–6 pumps (5–10 ml) of Wool Wash:
  • 3 pumps / 5 ml for soft water
  • 6 pumps / 10 ml for hard water
  • Submerge the garment and leave to soak for 20 minutes.
  • Gently squeeze out excess water. Avoid rubbing, wringing or excessive agitation.
  • Roll the garment in a clean towel and press out further moisture.
  • Lay flat or block to dry.
  • There is no need for repeated rinsing.
  • Always follow the garment care label, particularly for temperature and whether the item is suitable for washing.

Machine washing

Our No-Rinse Washes are designed to nourish your garments as a hand-wash treatment. We therefore strongly recommend using the hand-wash method above, as the long-term conditioning effect of the added lanolin cannot be guaranteed when machine washing; repeated machine rinsing may progressively remove lanolin from the fibres.

If you still choose to use Wool Wash in the washing machine:

  • Use Wool Wash on a wool or delicate cycle, following the yarn ball's or garment manufacturer’s washing and temperature instructions.
  • For particularly delicate, handmade or treasured garments, we recommend hand washing.
4. INGREDIENTS

2–10% anionic surfactants; <5% non-ionic surfactants; <5% amphoteric surfactants; Lavandula Hybrida Grosso Oil; Linalool; parfum; phenoxyethanol; potassium sorbate.

    FAQs

Why does the water look darker after soaking my knit socks?

Please always test your yarns for colourfastness before washing. The natural cleaning agents in the formula will gently remove grime and dirt from your garment, which will be visible in the basin when you remove your item from the water. For very soiled socks, you can repeat the soaking process twice, or until satisfied with the outcome.

CAN I SOAK MY SOCKS FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES?

In most cases it is safe to soak your socks for longer than 20 minutes, however, we always recommend checking the care information of the yarn you’ve used and special requirements.

Can I use YarnFood in the washing machine?

Yes, you can use Yarn Food in the washing machine on a wool or delicate cycle. Add 15 ml, or 9 pumps, either directly into the machine or into the detergent drawer. Your garments will still be cleaned and fed, but some of the nourishment may be washed out in the rinsing process, which is why
the hand-wash and soak option is the preferred method for Yarn Food.
